Kalinga to meet KISS in MCL Cup final match

Defending champions Kalinga Bidyapitha, Sampur rode on a goal each by Siba Prasad Bhoii and Suryakanta Majhi to be beat Delhi Public School, Kalinga by 2-0 goals in the second semifinal here at Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground today. Kalinga Bidyapitha will lock horn in the final against Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) on September 3.

The second semifinal was a keenly contested affair with both the teams matching each other in attack and defence. Though heavy rain made the ground slippery, it could not prevent players from showing their best skill and technique.

However, after a barren first-half, Kalinga Bidyapitha stepped up their attack which led to Siba Prasad Bhoi drawing first blood in the 35th minute. His measured shot from inside the box slipped past the hands of the opposition goalkeeper and bulged the net. Suryakanta Majhi capped the victory, scoring the second goal seven minutes later.

Siba Prasad Bhoi was adjudged the player of the match and he received the prize from Tata Sponge Iron Managing Director Sanjay Pattnaik. Today’s match was conducted by match commissioner Maheswar Singh along with referees Chandrakant Barik, Rajendra Barik, Asirbad Kanungo and Amit Nayak.
